Lockport Lager.jpg

Pre-Prohibition Ale

4.5% ABV - 25 IBU

Lockport was named as an homage to the rich history of brewing beer in Tuscarawas County. Prior to Prohibition, beer produced by the New Philadelphia Brewing Co was distributed everywhere from Buffalo NY to as far west as Kansas City. Their flagship beer was Old Lockport Lager, and while no recipe has been recovered, we’ve brought the beer back to life using historic information and context clues.

This golden lager weighs in at 4.5% abv and is brewed with 6-row malted barley, corn, and Cluster hops - ingredients commonly used by American brewers prior to Prohibition.

Recently, two of our customers brought us artifacts from the old brewery! We’ve got an original wooden beer case, complete with interior grid for holding 24 bottles of beer, and an original Old Lockport Lager tap handle head. A local craftsman built a base for the head, and it will be put into service to pour this new, old beer. Cheers!

At the height of the British empire in the late 1700’s, sailors and troops in India learned that the climate was too warm for brewing. Pale ales were made with extra hops and higher ABV to help preserve the beer during transport from England to India, and the style India Pale Ale was born.

Our West-Coast Style IPA is full-bodied, with hop-derived citrus and stone fruit flavors.
